Luke Terrell is a Midwest-based documentary filmmaker with a focus on human-driven social issue stories, especially those connected to disability and incarceration. His feature debut “Gabe" won Best Documentary at the St. Louis International Film Festival and FirstGlance Los Angeles. He produced “Your Friend, Memphis” which premiered at SXSW in 2022 and was acquired by Greenwich Entertainment. It played in Oscar-qualifying festivals around the country after being supported by The International Documentary Association, Gotham Institute (formerly IFP), Film Independent, Docs in Progress and the Big Sky Pitch Competition. His short “Groundhog Town” was acquired by The New Yorker in 2023. Luke’s newest feature documentary, working title “Unlocked,” follows juvenile lifers who taught themselves to code in prison without access to the internet. It's supported by Hulu, Doc Society and Kartemquin Films. He also worked on documentaries "Gumbo Coalition," directed by Oscar-winner Barbara Kopple and now available on HBO, and "The Seven Ages of Olajuwon," Robert T. Herrera’s film currently in production, which was recently selected for Berlinale Talents and their Doc Station lab. Luke also does commercial film work in his current hometown of St. Louis, including with non-profits Starkloff Disability Institute, Paraquad, and CollegeBoundSTL.
